BoldGrid is a website builder created on top of WordPress. It was created by a dedicated team inside InMotion Hosting company.
While it’s a free website builder, it only comes with hosting packages offered by InMotion Hosting and Web Hosting Hub.
It’s good for people who already have experience working on WordPress, as it’s built on the same platform.
While other website builders like Wix don’t give you the full control on your site, BoldGrid will let you maintain 100% ownership on any of your websites built on it.
All-n-all it’s a feature-rich website builder that’ll give you the feel of working on WordPress.
1) Pros of Using BoldGrid
- It’s free.
- Powered by WordPress.
- Users retain 100% ownership of their websites.
- 200+ professional and responsive templates available.
- eCommerce compatibility.
- Thousands of plugins available for extending site’s functionality.
- Support is everywhere.
2) Cons of Using BoldGrid
- The stand-alone version is yet not available.
- Only InMotionSoft, Web Hosting Hub & A2Hosting are offering BoldGrid with their hosting plans.
- You need to be familiar with WordPress, as it’s built on the same platform.
- You need to be little bit techie if you want to fully enjoy it.
3) Ease of Use
BoldGrid’s dashboard is almost similar to that of WordPress. Some changes have been made like the Themes are now called Inspirations and they’ve added a button in the Customize which enables you to add custom grids into pages or posts.
They also have designed the “website creation wizard” which will guide you through the website creation process if you’re using it for the first time.
The Customization section is pure WYSIWYG, that means you don’t need to know how to code.
But after all, it’s built on WordPress. So coding knowledge will always help you to deeply customize your website.
4) Hosting (Speed & Security)
Unlike other website builders, BoldGrid does not offer you any hosting plans with it. This means that you need to host your BoldGrid website on a 3rd party hosting service.
As mentioned earlier in the cons section, BoldGrid doesn’t have any stand-alone version. You can only avail it by purchasing any of the hosting plans offered by InMotion Hosting, Web Hosting Hub & A2Hosting.
Note: Speed and security depend upon the host you’re using.
5) Mobile Website
Themes developed by BoldGrid are all responsive, which means you don’t have to create a mobile website separately.
You also have an option to choose from thousands of WordPress templates, as it is technically possible to run WordPress themes on BoldGrid. But it’s quite risky, and you need to be a techie/coder for making it possible.
6) App Market/Plugins
In the plugins section of the dashboard, you can choose from a large number of free as well as paid integrations/plugins/add-ons in order to extend your site’s functionality.
Note: Although it’s been said that BoldGrid is capable of running WordPress’s plugins, I advise to use them with caution.
By installing WooCommerce (the most popular eCommerce plugin for WordPress), you can open an online store in your BoldGrid website for selling any kind of products (digital/physical).
For a little price, you can also avail some additional features like multi-payment options, CSV exports, autoresponders, etc.
BoldGrid offers more than 200 responsive and professional looking themes/templates to choose from.
For installing any template, you need to go to Inspirations section in the dashboard to choose the theme that fits best for you. After choosing the template, move to Customization section for further editing.
It’s technically possible to install WordPress themes on BoldGrid, but users have experienced lots of problems in the past. So, it’s not recommended.
While BoldGrid gives you a WYSIWYG interface, you can always tweak in custom codes to enhance the customization.
There are no limits for monetization in BoldGrid. You can place AdSense ads, banner ads, promote affiliate products or sell your own products.
From knowledge base to community forums, you can find the support everywhere.
In addition, you can also benefit from the support team of whichever host you’re using to host your website.
BoldGrid is free!
But you need to pay for the hosting and premium templates. Check out the plans offered by InMotion Hosting.
12) Who Should Buy It?
BoldGrid is quite similar to WordPress. It gives you more flexibility than any of the website builders available today.
But you need to be a techie and be able to handle all the tasks by yourself.
So if you have some experience working with WordPress or you can handle all of the website stuff by yourself, then BoldGrid is
ideal perfect fit for you.
